Oh well looks like my motor died. The bearings have seized and the bushes are worn out. Time for a new one me thinks.

Re: SEQ Trail thread
Kind of. The actual first one was the tamiya 27T for about a week then this motor went in so it has been in there for quite a while.

Re: SEQ Trail thread
Same here but thanks for the offer. I have 2 HPI saturn 27T and 2 Tamiya silver can 27T but I think I will go with another 60T and possibly another as a spare. They only cost $20 so not too worried and knew it would happen sooner or later.

Re: SEQ Trail thread
You can buy a exposed hpi brushed for $50.....then you just have to replase the brushes. If you keep buying tin cans it will add up in $'s & cost you more in the long run.

Yeah but when you replace brushes, you also need to have the commutator cut as well (ideally, you should cut the comm every 4-6 batt packs for a rock crawler motor) , which means buying a $150+ comm lathe and learning how to use it or finding someone who has one (Nev at Hobby-one has one, charges a few bucks to cut a comm).
Tin cans come in handy cause you just abuse them till the fawk out and then buy a new one, the RC4wd tin cans are like $16-$20 each.
Compare that to buying a rebuildable motor ($50). Then replacing brushes ($5-20 depending on brushes), getting the comm cut ($5-10) or buying a comm lathe to do it yourself (min $150). Eventually you will need to have the armature replaced (min $20).
Its not much difference in price either way you go.

Re: SEQ Trail thread
Plus it is easier to just replace the motor than all the fiddling around.

Re: SEQ Trail thread
Sorry Jarrod...but i have been running brushed motors in the Defender for about 2yrs...and never had a problem with the commutator....just replaced a few sets of brushes and ocasionaly striped and cleaned the armature. That was a HPI 55T Brushed motor.
Plus it lived in the water more than the hilux. I think what your saying is a "Urban Myth".
